Arrrg

Arrg

This Portabellopixie dress was the most disappointing garment I have ever made.
There is a very huge cloud of cuss words hovering above my house.
Really bad cuss words.
I have three days and forty five dollars (including pattern) invested in it so I finished it.
I thought twice about ripping it up but in the past when I have done that I have deeply regretted it later.

The back of the dress doesn't look so bad especially with all the buttons it needed.
Buttons and zippers scare me and I still have not attempted to sew a garment that requires a zipper.

The front with its stupid curling yoke.

It can possibly be fixed with a few buttons sewn on.

Silly instructions.

I love this material but it wrinkles very easily and will need pressing before it is worn.
That is a very bad thing for a child's garment.

The best part of this dress is how neatly I cover the ends of the yoke.

The yoke looks very tidy with a bit of pink velvet ribbon sewn to the ends.

A photo of how the dress should have looked.

I will sew this dress next.
I love the Peter Pan collar and it is an Oliver = s pattern.
I have mentioned before how much I love Oliver + S.

Happily I finished another Paul that I am quite fond of.

Giveaway Winner And Carnival Pants

February 17, 2010

Giveaway Winner And Circus Pants

Hello sweet friends.
Thank you to everyone who entered the "Sew Easy" giveaway.
I love reading your comments and browsing your inspiring blogs.
The winner of "Sew Easy" is Nicola@whichname.
Nicola, please e-mail me your mailing address and I'll mail the book out straight away. oliver_freya@yahoo.com
I will continue to go through my craft and sewing books as I have so many that have projects I will never make.
It seems wasteful to keep them just for the sake of having them.
They do look pretty in the bookcase though.

Sidewalk chalk is showing up in the stores again.
Our family goes through a bunch of sidewalk chalk.
Freya and I had a fun afternoon playing hopscotch although I have forgotten exactly how to play.

The carnivals pants are finished.
It was a difficult project to finish because I dislike them so.

Freya loves them.
And they spin. Bonus.
Definitely carnival pants.

Paul

A close-up of Paul.

Paul has a purple heart on his bottom.
Soon I will introduce Imogene.
Imogene is the leader of the Rogue Rabbit Gang.
Paul is the number one henchman and is in charge of new gang member initiation.
The Rogue Rabbit Gang has a long and entertaining story that I will soon share.

Godfather ll, Lots Of Home Cooking And Sewing

Godfather II, Lots Of Home Cooking And Sewing

This blog covers this weekends activities.
I usually don't write about past days but I am making an exception because Chris has been cooking and cooking.
It has been nice sharing the kitchen with Chris, he cooking and me sewing.

I finished this 'Paul' last night while watching The Godfather II.
The target on his belly is not a reflection of the movie.
It was decided upon before we chose to watch the Godfather II.

Once a year we watch the Godfather trilogy sans #3.
So I guess we really don't watch the trilogy.
There is something disappointing about watching an aged Al Pacino with veneers on his teeth after watching a young, very beautiful Al Pacino with real people teeth.

Yesterday Chris made taco soup.
It is delicious and delightful.
You can find the recipe here
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Taco-Soup-III/Detail.aspx

While Chris cooked I work on another pair of ruffled pants for Freya.
At first I loved the jumbo ric rac.
Honestly have you seen ric rac larger than this?

Now that the ruffles are being sew onto the pants, I find it overwhelming and really circus-y.
Freya likes them a bunch.
Thats what matters.

I wanted to show what a slow sewer I am.
I need to draw the .5 inch seam allowance other wise my stitch line goes every where.

I also over pin.
I would rather take the extra time prepping than have to unpick.

I finish this 'Paul' Saturday night.

The teeth are made of one million french knots. (my favorite stitch)

Oliver and Freya played 'Star Wars' outside.
Freya got stuck with using the red light saber, which the evil guys use, so she was upset.

She didn't want to have her photo taken.

Chris tried a new soup recipe Saturday.
It was also very delicious and delightful.

For dessert he made cookie cake.

These are a few of the project cards included in the 'Sew Easy' book I am giving away.
There are still two days to enter.
Thanks for reading my jumbled blog.
Some days it takes too much effort to put my thoughts in any sort of order and if I try
to I get discourage and decide to not write at all.

Cheers to a new week!

Missing For A Week And A Giveaway

February 12, 2010

Missing For A Week And A Giveaway

I haven't blogged for a week.
Mostly because I have been project jumping and haven't finished anything to show and tell.

Until last night.

I bought the 'Ruffle pants' pattern by 'Portabellopixie'.

They were really fun and easy.

I couldn't tell the back from the front so I sewed a bit of ribbon into the back seam.

Thursday night Oliver and I worked on his valentine box.

Another Oliver + s dress.
It is not finished.
It still needs a button in the back and fancy trim sewn to the yoke.

Freya modeling with her fashion pose and 'Zoolander' look. ( A very bad movie by the way.)

I am working on a group of softies, The Rogue Rabbit Gang.

This is Paul.

I mentioned another giveaway last week.
"Sew Easy' is a great book for brand new sewers.
It includes 12 fun projects and a guide to getting started.

If you would like this book please leave a comment.
On Wednesday I will draw a winner.

I missed blogging and will get my groove together this coming week.

(I had a bit of trouble with spacing.
One day I will sit down and learn Blogger.)

More Dresses

I am in a sewing groove.

Oliver and Freya had a wonderful afternoon rubbing balloons on their hair and then sticking them on to their bodies.
It was a fun afternoon.

One more day to enter to win the Heather Ross 'Weekend Sewing' book.

Giveaway!

February 2, 2010

Giveaway!

I have spent the last few days sewing Freya new spring dresses.
I really love sewing for her.
She is always so excited and grateful to receive new handmade clothes.
I wonder how long it will be until she will want 'store bought' clothes.

The first dress is an Oliver+S pattern.
I love making Oliver+S clothing.
The instruction are simple to understand.
For me that is an absolutely necessary.
I am fairly new to clothing sewing.

The second is a Simplicity pattern.
Sometimes those Simplicity pattern are not so simple to understand.

Heather Ross' 'Weekend Sewing' book is amazing.
If you would like to enter the giveaway please leave a comment.
Friday night Freya will pick a random name out of her big sombrero hat!
Good Luck!
