Painting: Day 5

January 10, 2010

Painting: Day 5

I took Saturday and Sunday off from painting and instead played with Oliver and Freya.
I also spent the weekend working on my new softie design Paul.
Paul is the first of a gang of softies know as The Rogue Rabbit Gang.

I have a laundry basket full of faceless Wee Wonderful softies.
Three of them are very happy now that they can see, smell and smile.
It will be nice when a birthday or special occasion comes 'round and I have a gift already made.

This morning I finished the second coat of paint for the ceiling and all the trim.
I am so happy with how it looks.

Tomorrow the walls will get a first coat of paint.
A coat of paint.
That sounds so silly.
Why would a wall wear a coat of paint?
I think a stroke of color would make more sense.
Or maybe a brush of color.
Oh gee, I just made up a riddle.
What is the thinnest coat you can buy?
A coat of paint of course!

Painting: Day 3

January 7, 2009

Painting: Day 3

I primed the bedroom today.
Total time: 3 hours

Tip: Pour a fair amount of paint into a medium container so you don't have to carry the entire paint pail around.
An ice cream bucket or large coffee can works really well.

Block in all corners and trim first.

Roller paint the walls and ceiling.

Tools

Hardwood floors are forgiving if you drip paint but only if you wipe it fairly soon.

To wipe up paint use an old rag and water.

After each painting day is over rinse out your brushes and....

Store them in some kind of bag.

This is the softie I designed for my sweet nephew Kai's birthday.

I named him Paul.
He is quite odd looking and I like that!

Wow this week went fast.

Day 2 Painting

January 6, 2010

Day 2 Painting

Two good tips:
Tip 1: Keep all necessary supplies together.
After you use them, put them back.

Tip 2: To tape off corners cut the tape in a straight line.

I spent the day tapeing off the window and floor.
It was a long project but I love painting.

Tomorrow I will start priming the walls and molding.

Painting Prep and Thrifted Records

Painting Prep and Thrifted Records

I am on task to have my bedroom painted by Saturday.
Today I filled and sanded the bullet holes and sanded the walls, trim and ceiling.
Why sand you ask. Sanding removes all the dust and grime build-up. It also roughs up the surface a bit so the paint will apply easily.

I am a painting pro.
My dad taught me everything I know about painting.
The first rule: Do the prep work even though it sucks.

Tools

I did make it out for a quick trip to the thrift store and scored in a big way on these records.
50 cents each and they are not scratched.

I hope everyone had a great Tuesday.

#1 Paint My Room

#1 Paint My Room

Our little house is going to get a sprucing up this year.
We have lived in our sweet bungalow for 12 years this June and in that time I have painted every room at least once - except my bedroom.
For some reason I can't choose a color.
Instead I leave it a sooty gray with old nail holes the size of bullet holes.
In fact when I got everything off the walls tonight Chris said it looked like John Dillinger lived here.

Seriously..........bullet holes.
Tomorrow I will choose a color, fill holes and sand the walls.
