Red Tongue, Blue Tongue

This will be a post of few words.
I am feeling very, very lazy.

Some recent thrift finds.

I scored big with boxes of vintage patterns circa 1952 to 1974.
I am going to sell them on my Etsy for $5, $6, $7 and #8 dollars which will include shipping.

Please let me know if these prices are reasonable.

I really need your feedback.

Red tongue and blue tongue.

That Oliver's and Freya's tongues match their shirts is purely coincidental.

I am working on some interesting post.

Please don't abandon me.

Log Cabin Quilt

In 1997 while pregnant with Oliver I took beginning quilt classes with my aunt.
It was the first time I purchased fabric and my first time using a sewing machine.
Of course I fell in love with fabric and the possibilities of creation.
I had long admired and dreamed for an armoire filled with lovey, time worn quilts.
Over the years I've hand quilted a dozen plus quilts and have enjoyed it very much.

I haven't hand quilted for several years now and I don't think I will as I'm about to pick up knitting needles for the first time.
(My sweet family has treated me to lessons this year.
There is a cute antique/yarn store a mile from my home where an older lady teaches private lessons for $20 an hour.)
In my basement there are four pieced and pinned quilts ready for quilting.
I won't be hand quilting them ever so I've decided to simply tie, bind and use them.



This log cabin quilt has been stored for seven years.
It has 64 squares and a very piecey border.
It measure 108" x 126.
It's ginormously huge and warm.
I loved making it.

I love it on my bed even more.

Winter Garland

Winter Garland

A few winters back I made a garland out of felt and batting (scraps from quilt making).



It came apart awhile ago.
I restrung it this month and added pink felt and shiny ornaments.

It doesn't scream Christmas so I hung them around the house instead of putting them up 'til next year.

It was a quick, inexpensive, fun and pretty project.

Tea Party Basket

Tea Party Basket


A sweet girl I know has a tea set on her wish list.
It took me a month to gather it together and sew a few things.



The basket was thrifted for five dollars.
The liner is a very ugly country dark red so I tried to bleach it out.
It colored the whole load of whites a pretty light pink.
My usually white towels are pink.
Of course Chris and Oliver are not too keen with pink underwear.




The liner is a huge bonus with its pockets.



I spent $5.50 on the cups and saucers.
The basket was $5.
The napkins cost $12.
The fabric was from my stashes.
The tea set in the magazine cost $25
My tea party basket cost $22.50 + leg and hand work + a bit of imagination!

Scenes From The Office Starring Barbie And Woody



Freya wanted to play dolls tonight.

She thought it would be fun to reenact The Office.
She chose the Christmas episode where Pam and Karen host a Christmas party as an alternative to Angela's Nutcracker themed Christmas party.




The cast is made up of Barbies and Woodies + Beaker.

Bottom row; left to right: Pam, Karen, Kelly, Angela.
(Freya asked if we can look for Barbies at the thrift store so we can have a Phyllis and Meredith).

(Absolutely)!

Best of all the cast has a nice plastic trailer where they all live together.

All is great this Winter Solstice.

Tree

Tree

Instead of buying a Christmas tree this year I bought topiaries and such.
I figure I can keep them alive for at least two months.

I have never put up a fake tree but this thrifted find worked out well.

It's always a big task decorating for Christmas and I find ways to simplify every year.

Does it look simplified?
